Melia Repko-Schmauk received her Masters degree from New England Conservatory. While in Boston, she premiered and recorded works by John Harbison, Gardiner Read, Roy Harris, Michael Colgrass and Malcom Peyton. Composers Elliot Carter, Earl Kim and Gunther Schuller have coached her in performances of their works. Melia now resides in Dresher, PA. She has performed extensively throughout the Greater Philadelphia area, including with the Lancaster Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia.
Frances Tate, a long-time student of the AF, performs in the Philadelphia area. She is currently second flutist with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, piccolo with the Lancaster Symphony, and coprincipal flute with the Endless Mountains Music Festival. She has performed with the Baltimore Symphony, Philly Pops, Pennsylvania Ballet Orchestra, and the Delaware, Annapolis, Knoxville and Richmond Symphonies. In 2002 she was second place winner in the National Flute Association’s Piccolo Artist Competition. Frances has a Master’s from the Peabody Conservatory.

The flute/harp duo is a French creation, and this beautiful combination is truly given its most expressive voice through the works of French composers. We plan to present a program entirely from France, including excerpts from the opera Carmen by Georges Bizet, “Piece en forme de Habanera” by Maurice Ravel, “Narthex” by Bernard Andres, “Entr’acte” by Jacques Ibert, and Claude Debussy’s Sonate for Flute, Harp, and Viola with guest artist Catherine Frey on viola.

A reception will follow. $15 for Alliance Française members; $25 for non-members.
